Urban students show growth in math on test

Urban districts show growth in math, but reading test scores stagnant on national test By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' Fourth- and eighth- graders in several urban districts in America made progress in math on a national test known as the "Nation's Report Card," but their reading scores have mostly remained stagnant in the last two years.

The trend matches what's going on in schools around the country.

The results released Wednesday are from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Twenty-one urban districts volunteered to have their scores separately reported for the release.

The districts had a wide disparity in performance. But overall, there were still gaps in how well students of different racial groups and income levels performed.
