Update: Light! for Photoshop

OS X version to be released concurrent with Photoshop 7 By Dave Nagel
Earlier this week we reported that Digital Film Tools had released Light! for Adobe Photoshop. We have two updates to that original story. First, while a Carbon version of the plugin does not currently exist, the company says it will release one concurrently with Photoshop 7 for Mac OS X support. We've also found out that, in addition to the features reported in that article, Light! can also simulate a variety of glass camera filters, including mist and fog, and also generate glow effects.

Light! allows users to add lighting to a scene where none existed before. Users select areas of the image, and then both light and shadow can be introduced. The plugin includes pre-built shape and texture libraries, including windows, doors, leaves and abstract patterns. Users can also add their own shapes and patterns to the library to create custom lighting effects.

The software uses proprietary matte extraction techniques to isolate portions of the image using luminance, color (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow), hue or saturation. It also allows for shape transformations, displacement and cornerpinning.

Light! operates in RGB, CMYK and grayscale and supports Photoshop actions. It requires Photoshop 5.5 or later and runs on Mac and Windows systems. A demo is also available. (At press time, the demo did not work in Photoshop 7 under OS X. We'll let you know when an OS X version becomes available.) It sells for an introductory price of $50.
