Update: Furnace To Support Mac OS X

Plugin package provides compositing tools for Shake By Dave Nagel
Last week we reported that The Foundry will be releasing Furnace for Shake before the end of the year. At the time, platform support was not clear, but we have learned that the software will indeed support the Mac OS X release of Shake, according to a spokeswoman for The Foundry.

Furnace is a plugin package that provides additional compositing and rotoscoping tools to Shake. According to The Foundry, a prerelease version is being used by The Moving Picture Company on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Jackie Chan's Highbinders for wire removal.

Furnace's plugins include:

  • Wire Removal;
  • Rig Removal;
  • Retimer (for building inbetween frames and reducing edge dragging);
  • Steadiness (for removing translational and rotational camera shake);
  • Deflicker;
  • Degrain;
  • Regrain;
  • Texture Replication (for generating seamless plates of imagery from a sample picture).

The Foundry says that Furnace will also be ported at a later date for other compositing packages. Pricing has not yet been set. For more information, visit
