WHIPPANY, NJ -- (Marketwire) -- 06/12/12 -- Faced with the formidable challenge of improving campus-wide PC kiosk performance, the University of Portland in Portland, Ore., needed a solution that enabled 250 simultaneous users but could scale to thousands of simultaneous users. Campus kiosks and computer labs are run on a VMware View environment utilizing a Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) architecture. They had experienced significant issues with data bottlenecks and access delays, problems common to large VDI deployments employing disk storage. Needless to say, user satisfaction was less than favorable.
WHIPTAIL proposed a silicon storage array as the hub for their virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) workload. This solution presented an easy, flawless fit into the university's existing VDI environment, delivering improved data velocity, efficiency and convenience. Data now flows seamlessly with immediate response times and the environment is easily scalable to more than 1,000 simultaneous users.
