Universal Pictures Joins With SCVNGR in a Hunt for HOP(April 01, 2011)
CAMBRIDGE, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/01/11 -- Chocolate bunnies and jelly beans aren't the only Easter treats to look forward to this spring. With Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's live action/CG-animated comedy HOP arriving in theaters today, Universal has tapped SCVNGR -- the social game all about going places, doing challenges and earning rewards -- to provide consumers with HOP-themed fun and engagement at Universal Studios theme parks and select brand partner locations.
Those looking to fill their Easter baskets this spring can play HOP challenges on SCVNGR to earn points toward unlocking some egg-cellent rewards, like the chance to win $100 gift cards from American Express and Fandango.
"We worked closely with Universal Pictures to extend the fun, engaging elements of HOP to a wider audience through SCVNGR's social game layer, where friends can share with each other," said Chris Mahl, SVP and Chief Brand Alchemist at SCVNGR. "This campaign is a great example of how the entertainment industry can leverage SCVNGR's game layer to easily reach a large audience with an engaged social graph."
SCVNGR is a game. Playing is simple: Go places. Have fun and share with your friends. Check-in, snap pics, do the social check-in or try a challenge! Everywhere you go, you'll earn points and start unlocking real-world rewards at more than 12,000 locations (think free ice cream!). SCVNGR makes it easy to share where you are and what you're up to with your friends on SCVNGR, Facebook and Twitter. Start playing SCVNGR by downloading our free iPhone & Android app. SCVNGR is funded by Google Ventures, Highland Capital Partners and Balderton Capital. Visit www.scvngr.com to learn more.
Blending state of the art animation with live action, HOP is a comedy about E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. He encounters Fred (James Marsden), an out-of-work slacker with his own lofty goals, who accidentally hits E.B. with his car. Feigning injury, E.B. manipulates Fred into providing him shelter, and Fred finds himself with the world's worst houseguest.
The film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS and produced by Chris Meledandri's Illumination Entertainment (DESPICABLE ME). www.iwantcandy.com
