Universal Audio Releases Plugins for Pro Tools

DTS encoding software updated for Pro Tools | HD By Dave Nagel
Universal Audio is releasing several of its Powered Plugins for Digidesign Pro Tools | HD systems. The company is also releasing three new versions of its Smartcode Pro TDM plugins, all of which now gain support for Pro Tools | HD. ALl of the announcements will be made at the NAMM convention in Anaheim, Calif., Jan. 16.

In addition to the new and updated plugins, Universal Audio has also debuted two new pieces of hardware, the 6176 Channel Strip and the 2192 Dual AD/DA converter. The 6176 combines UA's 2-610 microphone preamplifier with the 1176 compressor into a single channel strip. It also features improvements to the standalone versions of these products, including a 15 dB pad for the mic pre and split and join modes, allowing the preamp and compressor sections to be used in a series or separately via separate inputs and outputs on the back panel. It's available now for $2,495.

The 2192 is a dual DA/AD converter that transcodes AES/EBU, S/PDIF and ADAT in real time with single- and dual-wire AES modes. It supports sample rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz for analog and can simultaneously output to AES/EBU, S/PDIF and ADAT. It will be available in the second quarter, though pricing has not yet been set.

On the plugin front, UA is debuting TDM versions of its Powered Plugins for Digidesign Pro Tools | HD. These include the 1176LN and LA-2A vintage compressor emulators, along with the Pultec EQ and the new Cambridge EQ. They will begin shipping in February for $395 each. Bundles will also be available: both compressors for $695; both EQs for $695; and all four plugins for $1,295.
