Universal Audio Marks Second Anniversary, Management Changes

(September 24, 2001)
This 111th AES Convention marks the second anniversary of the debut of the new Universal Audio. Originally founded by industry legend and Technical Grammy winner Bill Putnam, the company was re-launched in 1999 by his sons Bill and James Putnam.

Since its rebirth, the company has gone on to release acclaimed reproductions of the 1176LN Limiting Amplifier and the Teletronix LA-2A Leveling Amplifier. New analog designs - both inspired by the Putnam-designed 610 console - include the 2-610 dual tube microphone preamplifier and the M610 mono tube mic preamp. Last year, the company acquired Kind of Loud Technologies, developers of highly regarded surround and effects processing software. In July of this year, Universal Audio launched Powered Plug-Ins, ultra high-quality plug-ins which are "self-powered" by the UAD-1 DSP card. Bringing professional quality processing to native workstations, Powered Plug-Ins are already receiving rave reviews from customers worldwide.
