Universal Audio Announces New Gear at AESVintage limiting amp, master audio interface, equalizer unveiled; Powered Plug-Ins get G5/Mac OS X support
The upcoming 3.3 release of the UAD-1 Powered Plug-Ins adds new support for Mac OS X and Audio Units as a supported plugin format (in addition to VST on Mac OS X). It also adds support for the Macintosh G5. The UAD-1 Powered Plug-Ins collection includes a proprietary DSP card and a set of plugins that includes the 1176LN and Teletronix LA-2A vintage compressors, the Pultec EQP-1A and Cambridge EQs, RealVerb Pro, the Nigel Guitar Processor, Dreamverb and the CS-1 Channel Strip. It's available initially as a public beta, freely downloadable for registered UAD-1 users.
In the hardware arena, the company has introduced both the 2-1176 and the 2192. The 2-1176 is a dual mono/stereo limiting amplifier. The successor to the 1176LN, the 2-1176 includes all of the features of its predecessor, along with switchability between mono and stereo. It also includes master bypass, master attack/release and matched side-chain FETs. No release date has been announced.
The 2192 is a is a one-rack-unit, two-channel, 24-bit AD/DA with master reference clock. Supporting sample rates of 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz, the unit transcodes between AES/EBU, S/PDIF and ADAT in realtime with both single and dual wire AES modes. It offers a noise floor of -145 dBFS and a dynamic range of 122 dB. The 2192 is available now for $2,795.
Finally, Universal Audio has also shipped the new Pultec EQP-1A TDM plugin for Digidesign Pro Tools. The EQP-1A has been available for the UAD-1 Powered Plug-Ins suite for more than a year and now offers support for Pro Tools HD and 24|Mix systems. The EQP-1A is an emulator of classic program equalizer that uses UA's "virtual circuit" modeling technology. The TDM version supports sample rates of 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz and offers separate boost and attenuation controls, along with all of the front-panel controls included on the original. It's available now for $395, with rebates available through the end of the year.
