Univenture and Guitar Center Create New CD Safety-SleeveHelps consumers, DJ’s and start up bands to transport and store discs (September 13, 2004)
Univenture, Inc., the award winning inventor and manufacturer of media packaging solutions, has worked with Guitar Center to develop an improved retail solution for Univenture’s CD Safety-sleeves and expand its offering to the music community. In collaboration with Guitar Center’s marketing department, Univenture created two retail-ready packages for the Safety-sleeves, branded with the Univenture name and complete with UPC codes and attractive artwork. Each style is now available in smaller packages of 25 sleeves, which hang on hooks and a stand-alone package that holds 100 sleeves which sit on a countertop display.
“At Univenture, we continually strive to meet the growing needs of our customers. Guitar Center, through its 134 stores, has been a valued customer for many years, purchasing CD Safety-sleeves from Univenture for their DJ & recording customers. The packaging of the two sleeve styles, however, became an inventory tracking challenge; they were bundled in bulk lots of 500 with no UPC code and were not designed for the retail environment. The new Univenture branded point of purchase display has not only enabled us to continue serving a key customer at our high standards, but has also given Univenture a new avenue into the music community. Through this additional exposure we should increase our overall B-to-B sales in this target market,” said Michele Cole, President of Univenture.
Tomas Sidenfaden, of Guitar Center’s Hi Tech merchandise group, commented, “In today’s sink or swim business climate, it is unusual to find a manufacturer willing to take risks. We respected the quality and ingenuity of the Safety-sleeve product and wanted to continue to provide it for our customers. Univenture worked closely with us on new product packaging relying on our retail expertise. The retail compatible packaging combined with Univenture’s customer focused solution, has contributed to Guitar Center’s ability to meet the needs of our customers in the high growth market of amateur and professional musicians.”
The rise of CD disc jockeying has created the primary market for Univenture sleeves in Guitar Center stores. The patented sleeves allow DJs to easily and safely transport their large music libraries from gig to gig. Pro audio businesses, local bands and music enthusiasts are also strong sleeve buyers to archive and distribute music sample discs. The sleeves allow them to safely archive and transport more CDs in a smaller space.
