Union Editorial's Nick Lofting Cuts California Lottery SpotLofting collaborates with Smuggler's StyleWar for ad agency BBDO West (June 21, 2005)
Union Editorial has announced that editor Nick Lofting has cut a 30-second TV commercial for the California Lottery's new MEGA Millions game, entitled "Impact." Lofting teamed up with StyleWar of bi-coastal production company Smuggler for the spot, which was completed through ad agency BBDO West. The ad broke over the weekend.
Shot on grainy, hand-held DV cam for a home video look, "Impact" opens on an outdoor wedding ceremony. Just as the bride and groom are about to accept their vows, something huge casts an enormous shadow over the guests. The camera pans upward to reveal a strange object in the sky. The spot cuts to a man running down the street, gesturing towards the camera operator and exclaiming, "It's huge! Let's get a little closer," as the mysterious object makes a landing. An aerial view taken from airplane reveals it to be a "Mega Millions" lottery ticket (computer generated by the effects artists at Method Studios), which blankets an entire neighborhood block. An excited homeowner emerges from underneath the oversized slip of paper and asks, "Does this mean that I won?" The tagline/super, "It's Mega Big" closes the spot.

So when (executive producer) Brian Carmody approached me to edit 'Impact,' I was thrilled. Working with StyleWar was a great experience - they're a bunch of brilliant, funny guys, and I would love to work with them again."
