Union Editorial's Nick Lofting Cuts Bacardi Silver Campaign

Multi-spot effort directed by Tim Godsall has the definitive survival guide manual (April 29, 2005)

Union Editorials Nick Lofting was recently tapped by agency davidandgoliath and director Tim Godsall of production company Biscuit Filmworks on a humorous multi-spot effort for Bacardi Silver. The spot has people in awkward social situations saved by their "Bacardi Silver Manuals" tips and tricks for saving the day. The campaign launches in time for the summer months and coincides with the release of Bacardi Silver's new Watermelon flavor. The 30-second commercials "Times Two" and "Vows" broke April 10. Three others will air in 2005.

"The five spots in this campaign all have a distinctly different feel, which gave me the opportunity to explore unique styles with each one," said Union Editorial's Nick Lofting. "Davidandgoliath created a campaign that speaks to a generation in a variety of languages, from broad physical comedy to subtle gestures. And Tim is a great guy to work with. Our sensibilities really matched well together."

A fashion faux pas is remedied in "Times Two." The commercial opens on two ladies at a cocktail party who've realized they're wearing the same red dress. A nasty catfight is averted when a party guest recommends consulting the Bacardi Silver Manual (which each woman conveniently carries in her silver clutch) for advice. A quickly edited montage follows in which the women rip and tie their dresses into reconfigured outfits. "Great dress," one comments. "Nice top," replies the other, as they salute each other's fashion sense with a clink of their Bacardi bottles.


In "Vows," a man at the alter stares into space as his bride-to-be and wedding guests begin to get uncomfortable. Desperate, the groomsmen standing behind him flip open their pocket Bacardi Silver Manual for some much-needed assistance. One of them leans over to his dazed friend and whispers, "Hey Tony, do you like nachos?" Shaken out of his trance, the groom replies, "I do."
