Union Editorial Cuts 11 Spots For Monday Night Football

Completes 11 promotional ?teaser? spots for ABC?s 2004/2005 season (January 19, 2005)

Union Editorial announced the completion of 11 promotional ?teaser spots for the 2004/2005 season of Monday Night Football (MNF) on ABC. The celebrity-fueled and dialogue-driven 90-second segments, which air in stadiums and on TV immediately prior each game, were edited by Shrader and directed by Mark ?T-Man Teitelman for the networks in-house promotions team.

The spots feature actors Angela Basset, George Carlin, Ice Cube, Dr. Phil, Sam Elliott, Jennifer Garner, Dennis Hopper, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Lloyd, Leslie Nielsen and Jerry Rice, and closes with the catchphrase ?Are you ready for some football? This is Unions second year editing the campaign, which airs throughout the 2004/2005 football season.

T-Man liked the energy he saw in a spot Shrader recently cut for Nascar, so he once again contacted the editor for the second season of MNF. ?We clicked immediately, recalls Shrader. ?T-Man is an extremely focused and driven director, yet he knows you have to trust your editor and allow him to do his own thing. He was comfortable giving me a lot of creative freedom, so despite only having one day to complete each 90-second spot, this project flowed very smoothly. It was almost like a jam session because the process was so relaxed and improvisational.

?Leslie Nielsen Tease opens on the actor holding a candle in the dark. A montage of archival game footage follows, as Nielsen remembers the ?92 Cincinnati Bengals loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, spurring ?the dark ages of Bengals football. In the Bengals locker room, Nielsen attempts to solve the losing streak, ?Naked Gun-style. ?There were questions. Lots of questions, he says, plucking a pair of thigh-high stiletto boots with cleats from a players locker. More antics follow, including an encounter with a sexy police officer, which elicits the requisite bosom-based Freudian Slip. When replying to her statement about the Bengals high-profile draft picks, Nielsen retorts, ?Yes, but they were busts. With the Bengals returning to MNF, however, the curse might just be overturned.

Sam Elliott stands cool and collected in the midst of a raucous barfight in ?Sam Elliott Tease. In his trademark baritone, he reflects on the word ?tough. ?Theres tough, and theres Favre-McNair tough, he says, referring to Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers and Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans, as angry rednecks around him pummel each other with beer bottles, smash stools and throw punches in perfectly choreographed chaos. Elliott continues, ?These two Mississippi boys will play through just about anything. Cracked ribs, busted thumbs. What happens when these two face off against each other? One can only guess.

In ?Dennis Hopper Tease, the setting is a dusty southwestern highway, as Hopper comes riding into view on his Harley. Hes looking every bit his part from Easy Rider as he reminisces about the 1970 ?summer of football love, when MNF first aired. Set to the track ?Born to Be Wild, Hopper gives a run-down of the sports greats, past and present, against a montage of vintage clips, prepping fans for a great new season of MNF.
