Ultrasound viewing part of NC abortion law blockedJudge blocks ultrasound viewing rules in NC's new abortion law; 24-hour waiting time OK
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) ' A federal judge has blocked a portion of North Carolina's new abortion law that required a medical worker to offer to display an ultrasound image of a fetus to a pregnant woman, describe it and offer her the chance to listen to the heartbeat.
U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles in Greensboro issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday, the day before the law is enforceable. Eagles said other sections of the law ' including a 24-hour waiting period ' can be enforced.
Eagles blocked the provision regarding what must be shown and told to a woman at least four hours before the scheduled abortion.
