Ufone Stand-Alone Family Video Phone Makes Video Chat Easy for Ages 6-86(October 03, 2011)
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 03, 2011
SeePort, Inc., the award-winning consumer electronics startup focused on making family connections easier, is now taking pre-orders of its Ufone video phone on crowd source funding site, Kickstarter. The Ufone video phone is on all the time so its ready to make live video calls with one touch connect. Video calls are made over a home Wi-Fi network to join families that are scattered across the country or the world. Its water-resistant with a unique portable design that weighs about two pounds so it handles kitchen splashes and can be moved around the house during conversations.
I really wanted my family to connect with video chat, so I spent months sending webcams to everyone and helping them install software, said Lauren Elliott, CEO of SeePort. It was a disaster. So I set out to design a device that did one thing and did it wellmake video calls. And it had to be so easy my 90-year old mom could use it.
The Ufone video phone has an 8 touchscreen to make live video calls by simply tapping the screen. The 5 megapixel video camera is wide angle to capture the room setting and audio is high quality so conversations are more relaxed and natural. Because the Ufone video phone uses a home Wi-Fi network, there are no additional monthly bills or subscriptions.
Its like having a window to your family, said Lauren Elliott, SeePort CEO. When I call my daughter on the Ufone, my wife and I can be in the kitchen making dinner while we all talk. The grandkids can just run up to the Ufone and say a quick hi or show me something. It just feels more natural. More comfortable.
SeePort will have a free mobile app, Ufone Mobile, for Android and iPhone, including the new iPhone 5. Ufone Mobile can send photos and make live video calls to other Ufone customers. Family members who use Skype on a Mac or PC will also be able to make live video calls to Ufone customers.
First $1million Kickstarter Project
For the next 60 days, through December 1, 2011, the Ufone video phone can be pre-ordered on crowd source funding site, Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a new way for projects to get funding and SeePort wants to be the first to reach $1million. Kickstarter backers who pledge $250 are essentially pre-ordering a Ufone. The target ship date is Spring 2012.
We are doing something special for our Kickstarter backers, said Lauren Elliott, SeePort CEO. Backers who pledge at the $250 level will be among the first to receive a Ufone and will get a one-time limited edition artist design. And if anyone pledges at the highest level, Ill fly them to California for the launch party at my brothers winery.
Named among the Top 10 Mobile Startups 2011 by LAPTOP, SeePort is focused on making family connections easier with a line of products and services designed to change the way families use technology to connect. See http://www.myseeport.com.
