UVa faculty demand president's reinstatement

University of Virginia faculty ask rector to resign after popular president's ouster By The Associated Press

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) ' Faculty leaders at the University of Virginia are demanding the reinstatement of the university's president and the resignations of two officials involved in her ouster.

They took the action Monday as the board of directors prepared to meet behind closed doors to discuss an interim successor to Teresa Sullivan.

The council says in a statement that it met with Rector Helen Dragas to discuss Sullivan's forced resignation. Vice Rector Mark J. Kington was invited but did not attend.

After a discussion that the faculty leaders described as cordial, they asked that Sullivan be reinstated and that Dragas and Kington resign. They also want the faculty to have a voting member on the Board of Visitors.
