US Health & Fitness Company Buys Multi-Award Winning iPhone App from Scottish Digital Agency

  (July 22, 2011)

Glasgow, Scotland (PRWEB UK) 22 July 2011

Sprint GPS Fitness Tracking is designed to help walkers, runners and cyclists track their activities and monitor their fitness levels. It measures distance, time, speed, pace, calories and altitude in real-time. Other features, including ghost running, detailed in-app statistics, and sharing tools, make the app a very motivational health & fitness companion.

Specialist US health & fitness company Peaksware LLC were so impressed that they approached Screenmedia and offered to buy the app outright. The company, who develop software systems to help individuals and professionals achieve health, fitness and peak performance, wanted to start offering mobile solutions. Gear Fisher, CEO & Co Founder of Peaksware explains;

"Mobile GPS tracking applications make it convenient and easy for consumers to track their exercise and Peaksware is constantly innovating to make fitness tracking a seamless part of the training experience.

With SprintGPS's world-class design and user interface, runners, cyclists and walkers of all levels will be able to easily record their time, distance, route, steps and more using only their iPhone."

Sprint GPS Fitness Tracking (now called Training Peaks GPS) is available from Peaksware in 4 versions; Run Tracker Pro for runners, Cycle Tracker Pro for cyclists, Walk Tracker Pro and Walk Tracker Free for walkers.

In response to the sale Kenny Shaw, Managing Director of Screenmedia commented:

Were delighted that all our hard work and effort has benefited both companies. We identified a new marketplace, created a successful product using our core skills, then marketed it and sold it to customers around the globe. In doing so, we established an entirely new revenue stream for the business and built a solid reputation as Scotlands leading mobile app developers.

The revenue from the deal is already being reinvested in our mobile division, and its helping to support our move to a new studio as the company continues to expand.

Screenmedia was an early adopter of mobile app technology. The company started focussing on mobile technology back in 2009 when Kenny Shaw realised that the emerging mobile web and mobile app marketplace was really starting to gain momentum. He says,

Mobile app development was still a very new and untested area. But, as consumer appetite for the smartphone grew, it was only a matter of time before the mobile space would become very important to our clients too.

We set about building our own apps, not only to bring in new revenues but to improve our knowledge of the marketplace. We wanted to lead our clients by example.

Developing an app when the mobile market was still young was not without its challenges. However, Screenmedia was able to build the health & fitness app in-house, drawing greatly upon their core expertise in interactive design and technology. Kenny Shaw explains:

We built an app that could offer the same tracking functionality as alternative, more expensive, hardware devices on the market, but it was far more accessible.

When we suddenly had over 200,000 customers downloading our product our traditional B2B focus was transformed. We learned a lot. Its success came from not only building an effective app; dedicated marketing and customer support also helped the app to achieve 5 star ratings in the App Store.

It seems that Screenmedia has timed things perfectly. The mobile app market is continuing to grow at a considerable pace and, according to a recent study by Markets and Markets, the total global mobile applications market is expected to be worth $25 billion by 2015 (up from about $6.8 billion in 2010).
