UIT Showcases Pre-Release of Media Cluster(TM) Storage Solution at NAB 2012UIT-Developed and Distributed Fault-Tolerant Parallel File System Designed for Streaming Media With Stringent Delay Requirements (April 17, 2012)
LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwire) -- 04/17/12 -- UIT (United Information Technology Ltd.) (www.uitstor.com) today announced the pre-release of Media Cluster, an industry leading clustered scale-out video and media storage solution for the media and entertainment markets.
The core of the Media Cluster is a UIT-developed and distributed, fault-tolerant parallel file system, which is designed and optimized for streaming media with stringent delay requirements. The Media Cluster features and supports seamless online expansion, scale-out storage capacity and aggregating network I/O bandwidth, with highly accessible data.
"It is a great leap forward for UIT," says Wilson Liu, UIT's chief software architect. "The industry has been waiting for a cost-effective, high performance scale-out storage system to address the needs of streaming media's big data. Media Cluster is an IP based scale-out storage solution, which utilizes commodity hardware, yet is capable of supporting the most demanding media applications such as non-linear video editing and HD streaming and broadcasting."
UIT is showcasing one of the Media Cluster's case studies in the media entertainment vertical market, video post-production, at the NAB 2012 Show, April 16-19, 2012, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, inside the Intel Booth (# SL 12810).
Utilizing UIT's entry level storage appliances (Intel X86 platform) as the cluster nodes, a TV station in Hong Kong recently on-site tested UIT's Media Cluster at its post-production studio. Running Apple Final Cut Pro, a group of Mac servers are connected to the Media Cluster running UIT's core distributed file system. The Media Cluster is able to deliver 24 concurrent stable streams per storage node (15MB/s each). Each node links to the Mac servers via standard GE (Gigabyte Ethernet) connections.
Because of the sophisticated file system, seamless online expansion is straightforward. Simply adding additional nodes to the Media Cluster will result in storage capacity and network throughput scale-out, almost linearly.
"UIT is excited to announce the pre-release of Media Cluster as the system solution for the media and entertainment market," said Tony Chen, CEO, UIT. "The distributed parallel file system we have been developing is a landmark for UIT in the cloud storage and video and media industries. Media Cluster brings an innovative solution to video post-production and broadcasting sectors in a very affordable manner, since the cluster nodes are made of standard Intel X86 platform appliances and the connectivity is native IP/Ethernet. Furthermore, both Windows and Mac OS client OS are fully supported."
