UC Davis votes for chancellor's leadershipUC Davis faculty votes down motion that would have expressed lack of confidence in chancellor
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ' Faculty members at the University of California, Davis have voted against a motion that would have expressed a lack of confidence in the ability of Chancellor Linda Katehit to lead the campus.
Members of the UC Davis Academic Senate have been voting for two weeks on a motion that would have expressed "no-confidence" in the leadership of Chancellor Linda Katehi after a widely condemned pepper-spraying of student protesters
University officials say the final tally Friday showed faculty members voted 697-312 against the motion.
In a companion motion, faculty voted 586-408 in favor of a motion expressing confidence in Katehi's leadership, but condemning the use of pepper spray during the Nov. 18 incident.
The motions are nonbinding but were expected to influence the future of the 57-year-old Katehi, who became chancellor more than two years ago.
