Two Year Study Indicates a 16 Percentile Point Increase in Student AchievementNew Age Learning to Showcase Results at NJEA Convention (October 25, 2010)
The study conducted by Marzano Research Laboratory tracked nearly 5,000 students and 120 teachers from a broad range of schools and districts nationwide. For the second year in a row, the research found that student achievement is an average of sixteen percentile points higher when teachers use interactive instructional tools. In the study, student groups were taught using the same lesson. One equipped with the Prometheans ActivClassroom, a complete suite of interactive learning tools, and one without. Results consistently resulted in higher student achievement when lessons were delivered using Prometheans interactive technologies.
?I think the advent of this new technology that Promethean does so well, both with the ActivBoard and the ActivClassroom; will change the face of teaching in terms of how we interact with students and what we use as content. I think this technology will help add a whole new set of strategies that were never available before, noted Dr. Robert Marzano.
?In a time when schools are looking at performance based pay, we believe that these numbers will obviously appeal to teachers throughout the state, said John Byrne, managing partner of New Age Learning. ?These results fall in line with other findings, and we are confident we can provide New Jersey teachers with the tools they need to help students and increase teacher salaries.
Special guest speaker Sonny Magaņa, head of global research at Promethean will present the study and help teachers understand the power of the ActivClassroom at a ?Technology Social on November 4th during the NJEA Conference (November 4-5) in Atlantic City, NJ. Interested parties can get invitations at the New Age Learning booth #817 or contact info@NewAgeLearning.com.
?Teachers across the nation recognize the improvements interactive whiteboards can make in their classrooms and they are quickly becoming ubiquitous in the American classroom, added Byrne. ?The one problem we see is that schools are trying to keep up and just throwing interactive whiteboards or more rudimentary Smartboards into classrooms and hoping the magic happens. We wont provide these boards without a training component. Otherwise they tend to be used as nothing more than projector systems. When teachers are trained, and boards used effectively, these tools make the old way of learning seem absurd. New Age Learning offers comprehensive training and Promethean has a community of more than 750,000 teachers using Promethean Planet, their free community to share tips, lesson plans, and content.
