Trollback, One-Stop Shop for Movie NetworkTrollbäck + Company Lights the Way (December 05, 2005)
Trollbäck + Company, a New York-based design and concept studio known for intelligent, clean design, teamed up this fall with The Movie Network, Canadas premium movie channel, to create its fall image spot. Integrating The Movie Networks film-frame logo and a glowing trail of light, the promo illuminates this seasons movie line-up while also acting as a network-branding ID. Trollbäck + Company served as a one-stop creative shop, both creating the conceptual graphic elements and editing the one-minute piece in house. The spot debuted December 5^th 2005.
Opening on black, a burst of light introduces ghostly strands of light that burn faint trails in their wake. Resembling the streaks of light in a long-exposure photograph, the trails meander about the frame, flaring in brightness as they ignite the opening titles: ?premiering this month. But unlike the light trails seen in still photography, these threadlike traces move in a third dimension, traveling away from and toward the viewer, as with a forward-streaking burst that prompts clips from the networks upcoming movies, such as ?The Aviator and ?Sideways.
The trail maintains its dancing journey through the clips, with a silhouetted, rounded square accompanying the lower thirds. As the promo approaches its close, the light path travels around and through several of these floating squares, finally revealing the squares as rounded sprocket holes of the Movie Networks film-frame logo. The trail of light finally leads to the resolved logo.
