In this weekly quick feature, TrendWatch founding partner Jim Whittington offers you interesting factoids based on market research from the content creation markets. This week, see how certain projects function as the engine that drives the entire production industry.
Fact: Over half of U.S. visual effects/dynamic media studios (53%) do work for corporate film and video projects. 46% do work for commercials while one third do content for broadcast.
Why should you care?
Knowing what type of work drives the industry tells us where studios/facilities make their money, and gives us look at the types of clients they work with. The "project engine" that drives the industry includes corporate projects, commercials and content for broadcast. Educational videos/films and independent/short films are done by slightly more than one-quarter of the studios/facilities -- 28% and 26% respectively. Almost one in five studios/ facilities does work for motion pictures/feature films.
