Fact: Two thirds of U.S. studios/facilities have external hard drives, and one-in-three plan to buy more in 2005.
Why should you care?
This Fast Fact may sound like a no-brainer given how inexpensive plug-and-play drives are today. Eight-out-of-10 Web/interactive media companies and nearly that many post facilities (77%) use these storage devices. Of all the different types of studios, fewer broadcasters use these (47%) than anyone else -- this makes sense given that many broadcast and cable studios have SANs and other storage networks in place. Even with many studios already using external hard drives, 30% planning to buy more, 23% plan to buy FireWire drives, 6% plan to buy USB 2.0 drives and 6% plan to buy SCSI external hard drives. In case you're adding up these numbers, 5% plan to buy multiple connection formats.
