LAS VEGAS (AP) ' A Las Vegas helicopter tour company says one of its aircraft is missing and might have crashed near the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

A spokesman for Sundance Helicopters said Wednesday that the helicopter was giving a sunset tour of the Las Vegas area. The company based at McCarran International Airport was trying to confirm how many passengers were booked on the tour.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell says rescue crews are trying to reach a helicopter crash near Lake Mead. The aircraft went down just before 5 p.m.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says several witnesses reported smoke and what appeared to be wreckage in the area.

The helicopter was an Aerospatiale AS350, which can hold up to six passengers and are often used for air tours.
