Toshiba Brings Video to Meeting and UC Survivability to IPedge IP Business Telephone SystemNew Version Also Now Includes Built-in Meeting App on Smallest System (June 05, 2012)
IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/05/12 -- Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba -- www.telecom.toshiba.com) today announced a significant new upgrade (Release 1.2) to its IPedge® family of IP business telephone systems for small to medium-sized businesses. New features include the addition of video into Toshiba's Meeting audio conferencing and Web collaboration application and survivability of the Call Manager Unified Communications application. The Enterprise Manager system administration application has been enhanced to provide database survivability and additional easy-to-use installation wizards. These upgrades are for Toshiba's IPedge EM (up to 1,000 users), IPedge EC (up to 200 users), and IPedge EP (up to 40 users) models. Toshiba has also upgraded its smallest IPedge system, IPedge EP (up to 40 users), to include the Meeting application built into the system server.
"Now with built-in audio/video conferencing and Web collaboration plus survivability of the UC application, IPedge gives SMBs and multi-site companies more ways to communicate efficiently, cost effectively and reliably," said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. "Even small offices now have the benefit of the built-in Meeting application on Toshiba's IPedge EP."
Meeting Application Enables Audio/Video Conferences and Web Collaboration
Now available on new IPedge business telephone systems, Toshiba's Meeting application provides dial-in audio/video conferencing and Web collaboration with scheduling, desktop sharing, conference recording, usage reporting and more. Toshiba's Meeting is Web-based, so it's easy for users to set up and participate in conference and collaboration sessions from virtually anywhere there is Internet access.
Toshiba's Meeting application integrates with Toshiba's IPedge business telephone systems to deliver:
- Reservation-less and scheduled Meet-Me conferencing that allows participants to share video from the webcam on their computers;
- Web-based desktop sharing, enabling attendees to see and share documents in the meeting;
- Microsoft Outlook® calendar integration;
- Web user interface for moderators;
- Conference view features, allowing moderators to see who's in the conference and to manage participation;
- Web-based reporting, enabling managers to view the impact of conferencing in their businesses;
- Audio recording capabilities for later playback or archival;
- Flexible configuration for 8 to 24 ports, providing cost-effective small conferencing capabilities for SMB businesses.
"Toshiba's Meeting gives SMBs and branches of larger multi-site businesses the ability to have affordable audio and video conferencing with Web collaboration capabilities on either a scheduled or on-demand basis," said Mark Carpenter, vice president of technology and product management for Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division. "Having the Meeting application built into all of the Toshiba business telephone system models makes it affordable for businesses of all sizes, utilizing their own cost-effective carrier services."
Call Manager Unified Communications Survivability and Enterprise Manager Administration Ensures Continuity
In response to user and dealer demand, Toshiba has integrated survivability into its IPedge Call Manager unified communications application and its Enterprise Manager system management application database. In the event of failure of the primary server, these applications are automatically connected to a secondary server and then reconnect back to the primary server when it becomes active again.
"In our fast-paced business world, survivability for unified communications platforms has become a priority for users," Carpenter said. "With Call Manager and Enterprise Manager Database Survivability, users can be assured that their unified communications and administration functions will keep working even if the primary server goes down."
About Toshiba's IPedge IP Business Telephone System
IPedge accommodates multiple unified communication applications on a single Linux server, including call processing, voice mail and unified messaging, meet-me conferencing with Web collaboration, Call Manager unified communications, native SIP line and SIP trunk support, mobility, survivability, networking with other IPedge and/or Strata® CIX systems, centralized administration, and feature-rich telephone endpoints. Plus, add-on applications, including uMobility Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and Contact Center solutions, are available with additional servers.
Benefits of the Linux server include survivability within or across the network to support business continuity and a higher level of security. A single IP address provides cost-effective deployment. SIP trunks work natively with the IPedge without requiring additional gateway equipment. With its IP technology and open standards, IPedge is designed for the long term as future endpoint devices and applications are built on standards to help ensure compatibility with the system, thus protecting the user's investment.
Built-in features include:
- Toshiba's Call Manager Unified Communications application;
- Enterprise Manager browser-based system administration with centralized multi-site management;
- Browser-based personal administration for individual users to program their own telephones;
- Flexible and feature-rich Unified Messaging;
- On-site mobility including Toshiba's wireless IP telephones; and
- One hundred percent networking compatibility with Toshiba's Strata CIX IP converged systems.
