Top Cisco Executive Joins RFaxis Board of Advisors(March 16, 2010)
IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/16/10 -- RFaxis, a fabless semiconductor company focusing on innovative, next-generation solutions for the wireless and connectivity markets, today announced that Malachy Moynihan, Cisco Systems' vice president of video product strategy, will join RFaxis' Board of Advisors. Moynihan was appointed Cisco's vice president of video product strategy in late 2007, and has led the way for Cisco's next generation IP-enabled consumer video solutions.
"Malachy brings a wealth of consumer connectivity knowledge and business relations to RFaxis, especially in the areas of operations, business development, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions," said Mike Neshat, president and CEO of RFaxis. "We are especially excited about Malachy's focus on next generation IP-based video, as his experience in this area will accelerate business growth for our RFX5000 RFeIC, perfected for 5.0 GHz Wireless-N applications such as HDTV video streaming and gaming, our RFX5024 dual-band RFeIC, designed for concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IP-based applications and our high-efficiency antennas. We look forward to Malachy's guidance and contributions as one of our advisors."
"I've been an ardent advocate for the proliferation of wireless IP connectivity as a method for global access to content and information," expressed Moynihan. "My networking experience at Linksys and Cisco complemented by my past consumer experience at Apple® have enabled me to identify and nourish rising stars that will enable this wireless IP connectivity objective, and RFaxis is clearly a rising star. Not only has Mike and his team successfully achieved that which has been claimed to be technically impossible, RFaxis revolutionizes the electronic industry's approach to integration and innovation. I'm excited to be an RFaxis advisor and I look forward to helping them achieve their goals."
Moynihan joined Cisco in June 2000, through the acquisition of InfoGear Technology Corporation, where as vice president of operations he led operations, ODM management, hardware product development, network infrastructure, and technical support. Moynihan was directly responsible for the development of a consumer product strategy that culminated in the Linksys acquisition by Cisco.
Following the Linksys acquisition, Moynihan was appointed the VPGM for the home networking business unit at Cisco-Linksys LLC, and served in this capacity until late 2007. As VPGM, Moynihan was responsible for product development, product management, business development and training for Linksys home networking, cable, DSL and VoIP products. Furthermore, Moynihan was instrumental in introducing Cisco-Linksys to VoIP and media products via several acquisitions, and growing opportunities based on these products into significant businesses. Moreover, Moynihan has been a significant contributor to the popularization of home networking technologies through his frequent interviews, presentations and tradeshows, in which he represents Linksys.
Prior to InfoGear, Moynihan was the director of operations for the Performa (consumer) product group at Apple Computer, and led all consumer and educational product operations and external product development. Over his 10 year career at Apple Computer, he worked in Europe and the US, and was responsible for introducing Apple to Asian and international ODM management. He has also worked in silicon graphics to develop their consumer products group. Earlier in his career, he worked in research and business development for several international companies, and the Irish government.
Moynihan holds a degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Ireland and has completed post-graduate studies in technology, business and finance at INSEAD, France and Ohio State University.
