Toon Boom To Release OS X 10.1 Patch Thursday

Update to fix problem with saving By Dave Nagel
To everybody's surprise, the highly anticipated Mac OS X version of Toon Boom Studio suddenly stopped working properly with the release of OS X 10.1. We were one of the early publications to report on Toon Boom Studio and to praise it as a major development for the platform. However, now, with OS X 10.1, the program simply will not allow users to save their files. (This was first reported in Mac Central.)

However, a free patch will be released Thursday to fix this issue, according to Benoit Beland, marketing manager for Toon Boom. (It had been reported elsewhere that a patch would not be forthcoming for months.)

Toon Boom Studio is an animation suite for Mac OS X and other operating systems that signals the first foray onto the Macintosh platform by Toon Boom Technologies, makers of the high-end USAnimation software suite.

The confusion over the release of a patch was caused by the fact that Toon Boom had previously announced a planned update to the software scheduled for the spring. This OS X 10.1 fix will be independent of that forthcoming release, which is still planned.

We'll be reviewing Toon Boom Studio for Mac OS X in the near future and will keep you updated with any further developments. The update will be available free on Toon Boom's Web site Thursday, Oct. 18. For more information, visit http://www.toomboomstudio.com.
