Toon Boom Bummer

Anticipated OS X 10.1 patch delayed By Dave Nagel
Those of you excitedly awaiting the Toon Boom Studio OS X 10.1 patch will have to wait a bit longer. Last week we reported that Toon Boom would be releasing its patch this week. In fact, according to the company, this release date has changed. Now Toon Boom says the patch will not be released until next month. A specific date is still unknown.

The Toon Boom Studio saga is a bit of a complicated one. The software is an animation package for Mac OS X released by the same company that puts out USAnimation, a high-end animation package for Windows and Unix platforms. The initial release did work with Mac OS X (10.0.4). But then it would not work under OS X 10.1, which Apple recently released. The dilemma is that OS X 10.1 is required for those who wish to use a pressure-sensitive tablet for drawing animation cels.

Mac Central was the first to report about problems with Toon Boom Studio under OS X 10.1. (The "save" function doesn't work.) They also reported that a patch would not be forthcoming until the spring. Toon Boom responded immediately to us and others that, in fact, a fix would be released much sooner than this?tomorrow to be exact. Now, however, the patch has been pushed back until next month.

A company spokeswoman responded, "I am sorry for the confusion this has caused you and your readers."

When the update is released, it is expected to be available for free on Toon Boom's Web site. We'll bring you updates as they become available. For more information, visit http://www.toonboomstudio.com.
