Tinderbox 3 Gets Mac Bug Fix

Lightning filter updated to 1.0v1 By Dave Nagel
The Foundry has released its second update to Tinderbox 3 for Adobe After Effects. The first update fixed a problem that caused the Old Film filter to crash while rendering. The new one fixes a problem that caused the Lightning filter to hang while previewing under certain circumstances, especially when creating complex lightning effects. The new update is available for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Tinderbox 3 is a collection of effects filters and compositing tools for Adobe After Effects. It includes four categories of filters: blurs, effects, generators and tools. Specific plugins include:

  • Circular Blur;
  • Gradient Blur;
  • Silk;
  • Bad TV (for creating video signal effects);
  • Bump Shade;
  • Condensation (for rain effects);
  • Diffusion Filter;
  • Edge Detect;
  • Melt Time (for creating a melting effect that distorts the time of the video);
  • MinMax (an additional plugin that requires registration to operate);
  • Motion Detect;
  • Old Film;
  • Roman Mosaic;
  • Turner (noise artifact creation);
  • Lightning;
  • Plasma;
  • Sparks;
  • Starfield;
  • Deband;
  • Defield;
  • Matte Tool.

The Lightnning plugin update is available as a free download from The Foundry's Web site. For more information, visit
