Times Square Studios Go High Definition With SonyHD switchers, routers, cameras and monitors for home of "Good Morning America" (November 03, 2005)
Times Square Studios is using an array of Sony HD production equipment for ABC's Good Morning America, which went on the air for the first time in high definition today, as well as other network news and sports productions.
Two Sony MVS-8000A switchers and HDS-X5800 routers, nine HDC-1500 cameras, and LUMA LCD monitors will enable the network morning show to begin live HD origination this fall, according to ABC.
Sony's multi-format HD switchers (with MVE-8000A digital video effects), studio cameras and routers will operate in 720p mode. Six of the cameras utilize large lens and viewfinder adaptors in a studio configuration, with three serving as field rovers.
The routers' software control system, HKSP-R80, makes changing setups from PC's easier, essential for preparing the wide variety of programs that are produced in the Times Square Studios. Sony's BZR-2000 software will provide the system's interface, running on the PC's, to establish the router setups.
The Times Square Studios' long-time SD configuration includes Sony's DVS-7000 and DVS-9000 switchers, routers and BVP-900 cameras, all of which will be replaced by the HD models.
"This commitment to HD for morning television is truly groundbreaking, fundamentally changing the look of morning production for the home viewer and originating in one of the industry's marquee facilities," said Rob Willox, general manager for content creation in Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division. "We are excited and proud that Sony technology is playing such a pivotal role in the network's operation, and we congratulate Good Morning America not only for its technical innovation but also for its history of quality broadcasts during its 30 years on the air."
