Thousands of Engineering Students Take the Knovel University ChallengeMore Than 4,100 Students From 500 Universities in 73 Countries Have Entered to Win the Challenge Ahead of December 1 Deadline (October 31, 2011)
NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 10/31/11 -- Knovel, the leading provider of a Web-based application integrating technical information with analytical and search tools, reported that enrollment in the Sixth Annual Knovel University Challenge is on track to surpass the record-breaking 2010 numbers, which saw more than 10,000 entries. With one month yet to go, more than 4,100 students at 500 colleges and universities from 73 countries have successfully completed 8,400 entries.
The Challenge has become popular among engineering students and faculty for introducing future engineers to top-notch resources as they learn how to research, problem solve, and prepare for a competitive workforce. Engineers at more than 300 companies worldwide incorporate Knovel into their workflow, so the Challenge helps students to jumpstart use of a resource relevant throughout their careers.
Last year, the Challenge was a requirement for more than 600 students in a freshmen engineering program at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. This year, the momentum continues as additional universities, including the University of Alberta and University College London, have incorporated the competition into engineering courses.
"Our engineering students have participated in Knovel's University Challenge for several years, and this year, I've worked with faculty to integrate the program into senior design engineering courses, among others," says Randy Reichardt, Research Services Librarian (Engineering) at the University of Alberta. "The competition is fun for the students, and it's an effective way to ensure they are familiar with resources we offer while obtaining hands-on experience using Knovel."
The Knovel University Challenge presents a series of questions on engineering-related topics, and students can use Knovel to research and find the answers. Eligible entries are based upon correctly answering a minimum of three questions. New this year, students have the option to play one or more levels of difficulty. In addition to the website, the Challenge is also available via a Facebook application to encourage students to compete and share results with friends.
The deadline for entries is Midnight on December 1, 2011. Eligible entries get a chance to win an iPad, iPod Nanos, cash and other prizes. Read the full rules and get started with the Knovel University Challenge at http://www.knoveluniversitychallenge.com.
