Thomsons Grass Valley Covers ?March Madness for CBSMulti-format HD production equipment helps broadcast college basketball (March 14, 2005)
Grass Valley brand high-definition digital production equipment, including HD cameras, switchers, routers and modular products, will be used by two major mobile production companies to help CBS Sports broadcast the NCAA Division I College Basketball tournament. The HD coverage includes several early rounds and continues through to the Final Four weekend at the Edward Jones Dome, in St. Louis, MO, beginning on April 2.
Both New Century Productions (NCP) and NEP Supershooters will be on-site at various locations throughout the country for CBS Sports during college basketballs most watched national tournament. Each HD telecast will be presented in 1080i, the CBS networks HD format of choice.
NCP, based in Allentown, Penn., will send its NCP-5 HD truck, complete with a Grass Valley Kalypso HD Video Production Center switcher to Tucson, Arizona for the Western Conference finals.
NEP Supershooters, located in Pittsburgh, will dispatch its SS-24 and SS-28 all-digital HD production trucks to Cleveland, Ohio and Worcester, Mass. for the regional championships starting Monday, March 14; then its on to Chicago, Ill. and Syracuse, N.Y. At the end of March, SS-28 will join SS-27 to cover the Final Four weekend. The company will also send its ST-10 standard-definition truck for support and SS-12 to handle the international feed.
NEPs SS-27 and SS-28 trucks, which each include a Grass Valley Kalypso HD switcher, more than a dozen LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam cameras, a Trinix video routing switcher, Concerto Series audio routing switcher and an assortment of Gecko and Kameleon signal conversion modules?will produce the Final Four tournament telecast in St. Louis in the 1080i HD format.
