Think Ships FireWire Drives

New portable and desktop models available By Dave Nagel
Think Computer Products today introduced Fire-n-Ice and Fire-n-Ice To-Go FireWire storage drives for the Macintosh. The drives are available in portable and desktop (external) configurations and is aimed at the design, video editing and audio markets.

The desktop version is available in 40 GB, 60 GB and 75 GB capacities and use a 7200 RPM drive with a 2 MB internal drive cache. Multiple drives can be striped together in higher-performance RAID configurations.


The mobile Fire-n-Ice To-Go drives are lighter in weight and measure 3.5" x 1" x 5.5". They're available in 20 GB, 30 GB and 48 GB configurations. The mobile units can be powered directly from a six-pin FireWire bus but also include a power adapter.

Both versions of the Fire-n-Ice drives are compatible with Mac OS 8.6 and higher, including Mac OS X. The portable models sell for $259, $370 and $629 for the 20 GB, 30 GB and 48 GB models, respectively.
