Think Ships Fire-n-Ice FireWire Storage Solutions(August 28, 2001)
The "Fire-n-Ice" hot-swappable desktop solution is available in 40GB, 60GB, and 75GB capacities and is configured in a convenient, small-footprint form factor (5" w x 1 3/8" h x 9" d). The Fire-n-Ice desktop version is designed utilizing a 7200 RPM drive with a 2Mb internal drive cache, ideal for video-editing and other applications requiring optimal linear read/write performance. The desktop solution is great for system backup, adding storage capacity to existing systems, storing thousands of photos, full frame video editing and much more. For added performance multiple drives may be purchased and stripped together to form high performance, cost-effective RAID solutions.
The mobile Fire-n-Ice To-Go drives are mini-form factor (3.5" w x 1" h x 5.5" d), lightweight, hot-swappable mobile solutions available in 20GB, 30GB, and 48GB solutions. The mobile units can be powered directly from computers that support power through FireWire bus (6-pin) and may be used on the road without being plugged into an adapter. For systems that do not support powered FireWire bus (4-pin) the drives may be used with the supplied power adapter.
Both versions of the Fire-n-Ice drives are compatible with FireWire enabled systems running Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, and Macintosh OS 8.6 and higher including OS X.

The Fire-n-Ice drives differ from most competing products in that they utilize the very latest in FireWire bridge technology -- the "Oxford 911." The Oxford FireWire bridge is currently the fastest on the market and provides approximately 33% better performance than other competing bridges. The Fire-n-Ice solutions provide file transfer rates up to 400MBPs and are just as easy to use as slower USB solutions that only transfer data at speeds of up to 6MBPs. The drives can also be daisy-chained similar to USB or SCSI (up to 63 devices for FireWire), but do not require complicated jumper, interrupt or SCSI ID configurations.
