Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, January 05, 2012.
Wet weather activity will continue in the Northwest on Thursday as a trough of low pressure and cold front move through the region. Periods of moderate to heavy rain and high elevation snow showers will continue from the Pacific Northwest into the Northern Intermountain West from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning as the cold front reaches diagonally across the Northwest. A few light showers may also spread into northwestern California as the southern edge of this front drops southward. Behind the cold front, a colder airmass will move into the region leading to cooler daytime highs and lowered snow levels in the Cascades.
In the East, a weak trough of low pressure in the Great Lakes will move into the Northeast with more chances of light snowfall in the Northern and Central Appalachians. Only light snow accumulations should be expected with this precipitation. To the south, Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories will remain in effect for areas of the central and northern Florida Peninsula Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of -16 degrees at Saranac Lake, N.Y. to a high of 87 degrees at Camarillo, Calif.
