The Smarter Glass(TM) Group Brings Projected Capacitive (PCAP) Touch Panels to Small- to Medium-Sized OEMsIntegrated PCAP Solutions Bring a Consumer-Like Multi-Touch Experience to Commercial, Industrial, Medical, and Defense Equipment and Devices (June 06, 2012)
BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/06/12 -- SID Display Week 2012 Booth 847 - The Smarter Glass Group today announced the availability of integrated multi-touch solutions that make it practical for OEMs of all sizes to incorporate the same user interaction available on consumer smartphones and tablets today.
Until now, the projected capacitive panels (PCAP) and the accompanying software and hardware required to deliver a multi-touch experience have only been cost-effective at the very large volumes of consumer products makers. As a result, OEMs in non-consumer segments have been left with few size or resolution choices unless they incurred the high costs of custom runs.
"Today's workforce is used to using smartphones and tablets, and many manufacturers describe the way new users try to pinch and zoom images when they first use a display interface at work," said Steve Cavanaugh, Director of The Smarter Glass Group. "OEMs want to add these multi-touch capabilities and enhance the whole user experience, but up to now there's not been a realistic way for most small- to medium-sized OEMs to do this."
Working with long-term partners who specialize in embedded components, the Smarter Glass Group provides an integrated solution in several standard sizes and resolutions, making this a practical choice for small- to medium-sized OEMs in commercial, industrial, medical, defense, and other market segments. Volume commitments can be as low as 500 units per year, and The Smarter Glass Group will support the longer product life cycles required by OEMs in these markets.
Examples will be on display through June 7 in the company's booth (#847) at the Society for Information Display's annual conference at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
