The Pixel Farm Releases PFTrack V2.0

Now with optical flow analysis tools and more (July 26, 2004)

The Pixel Farm, a company focused on innovation in the field of high-end digital post-production, is pleased to announce the next release of its much lauded PFTrack. PFTrack V2.0, the fourth major release of The Pixel Farms advanced tracking environment, takes the software to new levels of productivity and far beyond anything else on the market.

PFTracks optical flow tools track individual pixels from one frame to the next, building a comprehensive data model of all pixel movement within a sequence. This data can then be used as a single reference point by Pixel Farm plug-ins within applications such as Apples Shake and Eyeons Digital Fusion. Including more advanced optical flow functionality, PFTrack V2.0 now provides users with an essential addition to the tracking toolset - allowing the analysis of per pixel inter-frame motion alongside an improved Matte control and export to Adobe After Effects.

Richard Spohrer, MD, The Pixel Farm, commenting on the new release, explains, "Version 2.0 is the fourth major release of the application and takes it far beyond anything else on the market. We have taken things to another level with the inclusion of optical flow tools making Track 2.0 a must have production tool even for those who seldom have the need for a match moving application."

In addition to the new features, the enhanced tracking and calibration core gives increased speed, in comparison to V1.5, so extending the range of shots that can be tracked. Improvements have also been made to the image manipulation algorithms speeding up the process of cleaning up footage prior to tracking.

Improvements in Matte Tools now permits mattes to track features, thus reducing the need to individually key frame a mattes position. This, allied to the advanced feature tracking capability, significantly increases the set-up speed of complex shots. The further enhanced workflow now includes the ability to edit the frame range after tracking a shot without the need to re-track the entire sequence of frames. Working in tandem with other PF applications and designed for seamless integration with PFSilo - The Pixel Farms forthcoming content management system, PFTrack V2.0 is at the core of The Pixel Farms data centric workflow.

Paul McGeogh, Technical Director of Hardstaff, says ?Weve finally found a company developing workflow products that are technically outstanding yet do not hinder the artist. We work on very high profile commercials and pop promos and as such, a schedule that overruns is simply not an option. To date PFTrack and the accompanying plug-ins have enabled us to consistently meet those demands

An open API has been designed to allow third parties to access the data model resulting in significantly enhanced compatibility and following user request PFTrack V2.0 also sees the addition of Adobe After Effects as an export option. The accompanying release of the optical flow application plug-ins provides the same interactive working experience found when applied to plate stitching, retiming, motion blur and layer extraction that is currently found with PFStable and PFBarrel.
