The Pixel Corps and dvGarage Announce Guerrilla FX II

3-day conference on creating Visual FX for Film and TV (December 17, 2004)

The Pixel Corps and dvGarage today announced Guerrilla FX II, a 3-day conference on creating Visual FX for Film and TV on the desktop platform. Scheduled for January 7,8, and 9, 2005, at the Zeum Theater next to the Moscone Conference Center in San Francsico, the weekend is designed to bring current and upcoming Visual FX artists up to speed on the latest desktop tools and techniques available in the industry.

"We've seen an unprecedented drop in the cost of Visual FX tools," explains Alex Lindsay, Pixel Corps founder and former member of Industrial Light and Magic's "Rebel Unit. ?The only thing missing for artists today is the understanding of what to do with the tools. Like brushes and paint, access only is not enough to create artwork.

The first two days of GFX II will be dedicated to understanding each process and how it fits into the Visual FX Pipeline. The last day will feature prominent Visual FX artists using off-the-shelf hardware and software for feature film effects. Experts include:

David Dozoretz who has supervised Pre-Visualization and Effects for ?Star Wars: Episode 1, ?Titan AE,?Flight of the Phoenix, and the upcoming ?XXX2.

Marc Leidy, formerly the VFX Supervisor for ?Miami: CSI, with credits films such as "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Eric Chauvin, a Digital Matte and Effects artist whose many credits include film and TV shows like ?Alias, ?Smallville, and the ?X-Files.

Tim Dobbert, a Matchmoving Expert with credits on ?Hell Boy, ?Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and the upcoming ?Sin City.

Iain McCaig, one of the lead Character Designers for ?Star Wars: Episodes 1, 2 and 3, will be emphasizing traditional effects skills.

Debra Blanchard, who has served as a recruiter to companies like Industrial Light and Magic and Dreamworks Animation will provide attendees an inside view to how the recruiting process works from the company perspective.
