The Middleware Company Introduces SOA BlueprintsFramework for Service-Oriented Architecture Best Practices. (May 21, 2004)
The Middleware Company, the world's leading knowledge network for middleware professionals, today introduced SOA Blueprints, a set of blueprints for developing applications that use service-oriented architectures (SOAs). This effort, designed in conjunction with BEA Systems, Inc., contains an open specification, third-party expert validation, and upcoming implementations using multiple technologies. SOA Blueprints includes multiple real-world applications, described in an architecturally-neutral way, permitting implementations to come from the middleware community using a variety of technologies including Web Services, J2EE and .NET.
"This effort fortifies how SOA can be applied to real world problems," said Salil Deshpande, CEO at The Middleware Company. "The SOA Blueprints specification captures realistic enterprise scenarios allowing the middleware industry to create, compare, and contrast multiple implementations using diverse technologies. SOAs are increasingly becoming the de-facto standard for mission critical systems, but until now, there has been little documentation on their best practices."
SOA Blueprints and BEA's early implementation will be on display at BEA eWorld 2004 next week. SOA Blueprints describes a fictitious corporation, GeneriCo, which defines a complete environment consisting of a set of intercommunicating applications. GeneriCo includes a unified service-oriented security provisioning system, a multi-function employee portal and an HR application. These utilize services that depend upon databases and legacy systems. The SOA Blueprints specification, striving to achieve broader industry adoption, is now open for public comment at TheServerSide Communities (http://www.TheServerSide.com). SOA Blueprints is hosted at www.MiddlewareRESEARCH.com and BEA System's WebLogic Workshop implementation is at BEA's dev2dev SOA Technology Center launching on 5/24/04.
