?The Inn Shot With Panasonic AG-DVX100

Theatrical feature from filmmaker Pepi Singh Khara released (November 17, 2004)

Maryland-based filmmaker Pepi Singh Khara has announced that after eight months of post-production, his second feature film, a Hitchcock-inspired thriller titled The Inn, is ready for the international film festival circuit. The plot concerns a reporter who uncovers the dark secret of a small Maryland town, and finds herself in the middle of a chilling scenario as hundreds of area disappearances are suddenly accounted for. Principal photography for the film, shot on two Panasonic AG-DVX100s, was done over a span of two weeks in early 2004 at The Inn at Buckeystown (MD). Additional scenes were shot during the last few months in a variety of Frederick County locations and businesses.

Producer/ Director/ DP Pepi Singh Khara is (by day) a Frederick, MD-based real estate broker (owner of ISELLHOUSES.COM, REALTORS). He founded Frederick Films LLC (FREDERICKFILMS.COM) three years ago, and shot three short films (one of which took top prize at the Frederick Festival of the Arts). Pepi produced and directed his first feature film, Far From India, in 2003 (likewise shot on the DVX100). The film was critically well-received at independent film festivals around the country, and was picked up on regional cable.

Editing on The Inn was done on Adobe Premiere 6.0. According to the filmmaker, ?We edited the footage without making any adjustments for frame rate. The end result looks very cinematic, due to the incredible light sensitivity of the cameras, especially in combination with the 20+ years lighting experience of Lighting Director Scott Preston. The production value of this film is the same as that on a 35 mm set. We staged the action, lit the sets and shot when everything was in place. No color correction was necessary as the images were crisply lit throughout the film. The end result, when viewed on TV, looks like a film that could easily have been captured on 16mm film stock.
