The Camera House Adds Grass Valley Viper Cameras

Viper FilmStream Cameras from Thomson to Facilitate Advanced DI Workflow (November 11, 2004)

The Camera House, a premiere rental company serving top-end cinematographers, directors and production companies in the Hollywood film community, has purchased two Grass Valley brand Viper FilmStream Camera Systems from, Thomson, the world leader in integrated solutions (technologies, equipment, and services) to the entertainment and media industries.

Adding the Viper to its extensive rental inventory supports a growing demand among The Camera Houses client base, which has largely been made up of 16 and 35mm film rental packages, to leverage the benefits of digital imaging and post-production.

The unique Grass Valley Viper digital cinematography cameras will be offered for rent by The Camera House in tandem with an S.Two digital disk recorder and other equipment, providing filmmakers with the most advanced options for capturing digital information and translating it into high-quality images and effects. The Viper, along with an S.Two digital film system as configured by The Camera House, captures raw uncompressed data with a resolution equivalent to 2K resolution in film--the most common resolution for all major studio film releases.

More broadly, Thomson has developed a worldwide distribution agreement with S.Two to enable rental houses throughout the world to purchase the Grass Valley Viper FilmStream camera as part of a complete systems package with the S.Two recorders and other equipment. That access is needed because of increased demand for the innovative camera.

?We understand the importance of being on the cutting edge of a new technology, and while film still rules, we think that digital workflows that include the Grass Valley Viper camera are growing in importance all the time, said Rufus Burnham, owner of The Camera House. ?The Viper and S.Two Digital Film System provides a number of advantages for filmmakers and were happy to be offering it. Were big supporters of the Viper Camera and what it brings to the party.

?This order for two Viper systems confirms the technological leadership of Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions, and brings unparalleled digital image capture capabilities to the Hollywood community," said Marc Valentin, president of Thomson Broadcast & Media Solutions, "By adding Viper to their film rental inventory, The Camera House now provides the most advanced choices in image capture to their clients. We are pleased to help make high-quality acquisition tools like the Viper FilmStream camera and other film imaging technologies from Thomson available to those motion picture professionals who need it most.

A part of its new purchase, The Camera House announced plans to hold a series of workshops at its North Hollywood facility, to educate its clients about the Viper FilmStream camera and its considerable workflow and image capture efficiencies. Dates and times to be announced.

The Viper FilmStream Camera System can capture the full range of information a scene has to offer, from low light ambient environments to high-intensity lighting scenes. Because this information is captured digitally?and is uncompromised by any video signal processing?directors have the maximum latitude in the field and in post production to create the exact look they want. This information-capturing ability also enables the cinematographer to meet whatever environmental or technical demands their projects require.
