TerraBlock Takes Flight at the Federal Aviation Administration

Facilis Technology’s TerraBlock accelerates aviation agency’s video production (April 05, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-4-5--Hudson, Mass, April 5, 2007 – Facilis Technology, a leader in shared media storage technology for post-production, today announced that the TerraBlock shared storage network is now installed and operational in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA has installed a 24D TerraBlock environment to support three workstations for the production of employee training videos, internal communication videos and external video broadcasts.

“The FAA has a very demanding production schedule. In addition to weekly live broadcasts and ongoing training videos, we’re also continuously editing conventional shoots,” explained Kevin Lowe, studio director of the FAA Academy. “We needed to accelerate the post-production process and opted for a higher capacity shared storage system because it wouldn’t compromise the quality of the videos or broadcasts. We were introduced to the TerraBlock by Digital Resources, a reseller in Tulsa, OK, and were immediately impressed by the system’s ability to support multiple streams of uncompressed data and collaboration between our Apple editing systems. It was exactly what we were looking for.”

The TerraBlock, manufactured by Facilis Technology, gives post-production and content creation facilities unmatched speed and flexibility, with the confidence of dynamic per-volume data protection through the DynaRAID feature. Facilis Technology’s TANDEM feature gives editors and administrators added load balancing and higher bandwidth potential for HD and DI workflow. These tools allow facilities to make the most of their storage resources without added complexity.

“When facility owners look for a product that’s manageable and can deliver the performance necessary for their online workflow, TerraBlock is the clear solution,” stated James McKenna, vice president, Facilis Technology. “We can’t think of a greater compliment than to be chosen by the FAA for these exact reasons."

TerraBlock systems combine intelligent drive management software with lower-cost SATA drive technology and dedicated optical fiber channel client connectivity. TerraBlock 2.0 supports Avid, Apple, Adobe and many other non-linear editorial, graphics and effects applications, as well as many content creation, DI and encoding systems on various Windows and Mac OS platforms.
