TerraBlock Expands Virtual Volume Capabilities

Facilis Technology?s high performance storage network delivers Linux support (April 14, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-4-14--NAB 2007, Las Vegas, NV, April 14, 2007 Facilis Technology, a leader in shared media storage technology for post-production and content creation, announced today new TerraBlock system enhancements. The TerraBlock high-performance storage network is recognized for its scalability, affordability and reliability.

New capabilities include support for Linux, enhanced Virtual Volume features, iSCSI Ethernet bridge and improvements to the TerraBlock Manager user interface:

  • TerraBlock Manager for Linux: As digital intermediate (DI) workstations increasingly utilize Linux operating systems, Facilis Technology has enhanced its Linux support with easy-to-use management software and dynamic volume access for multiple workstations.
  • Enhanced Virtual Volumes: TerraBlock 24D now has the ability to span all 24 drives in a single basic volume. Enhanced virtual volumes are ideal for single or multiple TerraBlock users who need to balance client loads more effectively.
  • iSCSI Ethernet Bridge: TerraBlock virtual volume access is now extended to Ethernet-connected clients via an optional hardware. Users working remotely from laptops or other low-bandwidth clients are now able to access Facilis virtual volumes as if connected over fiber channel. All TerraBlock systems can easily add the iSCSI module for the speed and flexibility synonymous with TerraBlock.
  • TerraBlock Manager Improvements: The software management tool will provides Email notification in case of a drive error, new color-coding for usability of the TerraBlock Manager interface, the ability to cross-reference users by workstation for flexible user account creation, and much more.

?Weve always concentrated on reliability and performance, but our new interface improvements and workflow-oriented features show that were looking outside the box, stated James McKenna, vice president, Facilis Technology. ?The new features extend the TerraBlocks reach, augment our Dyna-RAID data protection and TANDEM volume spanning and make it easier for administrators and users to manage the system.

TerraBlock systems combine intelligent drive management software with lower-cost SATA drive technology and dedicated optical fiber channel client connectivity. TerraBlock supports all Avid, Apple, Adobe and most non-linear editorial, graphics and effects applications, content creation, DI and encoding systems on various Windows, Macintosh, and Linux OS platforms.
