Tenn. governor OK'd clearing out Capitol protestTennessee governor approved troopers' pre-dawn roundup of protesters from Capitol grounds
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) ' Tennessee's safety commissioner says Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's office approved a pre-dawn roundup of Wall Street protesters from the state Capitol grounds.
About 75 state troopers began moving into the Legislative Plaza a little after 3 a.m. Friday to enforce a newly enacted curfew for the grounds.
Twenty-nine people were arrested, but a night judge refused to sign warrants because the policy had only been in effect since the previous afternoon.
Gibbons said he disagreed with the judge's ruling. The protesters were instead issued misdemeanor citations and released.
It is unclear how the overnight curfew will be enforced against pedestrians who frequently cut through the area after leaving nearby performing arts and concert venues.
