Telestream Enhances Media Workflows at NAB2005

Company bridges digital islands between platforms and formats (April 25, 2005)

Telestream announced three major new products that bridge platform and format gaps for broadcasters, media companies and content creators. These exciting new products combined with the growing number of new partnerships firmly establish the companys leadership position in the media and entertainment industry.

Telestream introduced FlipFactory HD, the newest product to emerge from its world-renowned FlipFactory family. FlipFactory HD simplifies conversion of multiformat source media to the new HD standard for broadcasters and other content owners. Recognized for its depth and breadth of broadcast format and system support, FlipFactory facilitates automated, file-based exchange between leading broadcast media servers and production systems. Now, FlipFactory HD solves the same challenge for HD workflows. Plus, exclusive MotionResolve technology provides superior HD picture quality.

For remote news submission, Telestream introduced Launch, a personal media delivery application for the Mac and PC. Priced under US$500, Launch provides videographers and journalists with a flexible, affordable solution for transmitting news cuts or other edited material from Mac or PC-based laptop or desktop video editing systems over any standard or wireless IP network. Exclusive HyperLaunch media delivery protocol enhances throughput by providing better utilization of a variety of network connections.

A new family of Flip4Mac personal productivity tools enable Macintosh OS X users to make, edit, and play Windows Media from within QuickTime-based media applications. Telestreams Flip4Mac products bridge gaps between the Apple Macintosh platform and Microsoft Windows Media format.

Now available, the new Flip4Mac family includes:
* WMV Player (US$9.99 introductory price) to play Windows Media in the QuickTime Player
* WMV Player Pro (US$49) to edit, convert, and play Windows Media on a Mac
* WMV Studio (US$99) to make, edit, and play standard definition Windows Media on a Mac
* WMV Studio Pro (US$179) to make, edit, and play up to HD Windows Media on a Mac

Visitors to Telestream Booth SU11404 were greeted by a live theater presentation and product demonstrations arranged in the six workflows in which Telestream plays a key role:
* News workflows feature Launch for remote submission, FlipFactory News products for automated ingest to newsroom systems and MAPreview for competitive newscast review.
* Commercials and Syndicated Content workflows feature FlipFactory TrafficManager automating the entire ingest workflow process, plus the FlipFactory Pro universal transcoder.
* Post-production workflows feature FlipFactory, ClipMail, and Flip4Mac products providing a tapeless, file-based, format-agnostic network environment for moving media files around; ClipMail and FlipFactory also provide ingest and reformatting for Logicalways asset management solution.
* Media Collaboration workflows feature NAB introduction of MAP product integration with Microsoft SharePoint to enable robust distributed workgroup media access and collaboration.
* Digital media tools for the Mac demonstration features new Flip4Mac products to make, edit, and play Windows Media on the Mac from within users favorite media applications.
* In addition to the new products, significant enhancements to the FlipFactory and MAP product lines were demonstrated at the show.

A number of important new partnerships were also announcing by Telestream at NAB, such as Panasonic. FlipFactory combines with Panasonic P2 to provide a completely tapeless, automated workflow from news acquisition and ingest to newsroom systems.

?Telestreams FlipFactory transcoder provides a quick and powerful gateway to the IT-centric world for Panasonic P2 content, said John Baisley, President of Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems. ?From a workflow perspective, FlipFactory provides significant value by automating the ingest of MXF DV content from the Panasonic P2 card and, where necessary, reformatting the content for direct file transfer to newsroom and other destination systems, such as nonlinear edit systems, storage area networks, and on-air servers, in the formats required by each.

Other key new partnerships include:
EVS FlipFactory integration provides seamless media/metadata file exchange between the EVS XT Server and a greater number of professional servers and edit systems, including Avid.
Generation Technologies FlipFactory combines with Generation Technologies to provide broadcasters a fully automated all-digital newsflow, from receipt of news content to reformatting and delivery to newsroom systems.
MIJO (the largest commercial distributor in Canada) FlipFactory TrafficManager automates ingest of commercials and metadata from the MIJOnet edge server to broadcast on-air servers.
North Plains FlipFactory provides ingest, conversion and delivery of motion image files in a wide variety of standard industry formats.
Reuters FlipFactory NewsManager seamlessly integrates with Reuters new World News Express (WNE) file-based delivery system to automate ingest of news content within the facility to news production and broadcast servers.
Sorenson Media Flip4Mac products provide optional Windows Media encoding and import support for the new Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 Compression Suite Macintosh version.
Sundance Digital FlipFactory integrates into Sundance Digital's Seeker, a Digital Workflow Task and Asset Management solution for broadcasters. FlipFactory also integrates with its Sales & ProgramView content management options for Titan and FastBreak Automation to provide low-res proxy creation and the movement of content on and off broadast servers.
Additional new partnerships include 360 Systems, Clear Story, Exanet, and Run Digital Media.

Telestream products were demonstrated in over 20 partner booths at last weeks NAB Show. MAP and FlipFactory are key media ingest and repurposing solutions in Microsofts unveiling of the Connected Services Framework for Broadcast and Film. A number of digital asset management partners are including FlipFactory for automated reformatting and file transfers, including Artesia, Clear Story Systems, EMC, HP, IBM, ICFInteractive Content Factory, North Plains, Pictron, Stellent, Sun, and Sundance. Automation partners including Telestream products in their demonstrations were Crispin and Harris. Content Delivery Partners include Aspera and Pathfire. Media server and storage partners include EVS and Exanet. Telestream products also played a key role in Apple and Avid booth demonstrations.
