TechniSat Announces DigiCom Beta 1 DVB-Sat-Receiver

TechniSat announced the availability of the DigiCom Beta 1 satellite receiver, featuring an integrated betacrypt decoding module, as of November 2001. The basis for the development of this unit was laid by the licensing agreement signed in August with BetaResearch, the technology division within the Kirch group of companies.

With the availability of a built-in card reading module, all users need to enjoy the Premiere bouquet of programmes is a valid Smartcard. The TechniSat DigiCom Beta 1 receiver also provides reception of all non-encrypted digital TV and radio programs.

The electronic programme guide (EPG) assists viewers in keeping track of all these programs. The EPG is based on a special technology developed by TechniSat. An associated company, INFOSAT, provides the editorial means in compiling a database that covers all programs and platforms, providing a uniform presentation of all relevant information relating to all digital satellite content. INFOSAT maintains an editorial team in Luxembourg, in close proximity to the ASTRA uplink station, in order to compile this convenient and extremely useful, up-to-date INFOSAT-EPG.

In addition, the DigiCom Beta 1 is also equipped with, among other features, a timer for 128 events, DiSEqC 1.0, a parental control feature, and is Dolby Digital compatible (AC3). The DigiCom Beta 1 measures a compact 305 x 65 x 135 mm (WxHxD) and is available in grey, from authorized stockists, at a retail price of 359,- (DM 702,14 in Germany).

The DigiCom Beta 1 represents an addition to the TechniSat range of digital products. Digital set-top boxes capable of receiving programmes encrypted by means of the betacrypt system via cable are currently under development by TechniSat. In addition, boxes equipped with the Common Interface (CI), and capable of taking up to two Conditional Access (CA) decoding modules are being planned.
