Take the MACS/MVCC Technology Challenge

Palos Hills, IL (PRWEB) January 30, 2014

Attention all high school students who love technologyare you ready to use your knowledge and skills at Moraine Valley Community Colleges (MVCC) and Moraine Area Career Systems (MACS) Technology Challenge February 20th and March 17th?

Moraine Valley works hand in hand with MACS in-district high schools assisting students to transition into college. MACS are one of the statewide networks of Education for Employment (EFE) groups, whose primary goal is to establish quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These training programs incorporate the skills and knowledge needed in life as an integral part of academic and CTE programming. In addition, these programs highlight the importance of learning from elementary through post-secondary education.

MVCC provides dual-credits for the high schools involved in MACS (Andrew, Argo, Eisenhower, Evergreen, Oak Lawn, Reavis, Richards, Sandburg, Shepard and Stagg) and also assists with aligning dual-credits with college curricular. This unique MACS/MVCC collaboration gives high school students the experience to be in high school honors courses and the opportunity to work toward industry and academic certifications through college. High achieving high school students are recommended by their teachers to participate in the MACS/MVCC Technology Challenge.

There are two rounds involved in the technology challenge. The first round is February 20th at the students high school. Students who are chosen by their teachers will participate in the 40-minute virtual exam. The top two scoring students from each of the high schools in each of the following areasAutomotive, Mechanical Drafting, A+IT Essentials, Photoshop and Office Systems Applications, will participate in round two. The only exception to the round one virtual exam is that Automotive clearly cant be done virtually, so they are coming to Moraine Valley on February 3rd to compete.

Round two kicks off March 17th at Moraine Valley Community College, Palos Hills. This high-end event includes opening and closing ceremonies, a keynote speaker and a luncheon. Awards will be given to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place students and high schools.

The MACS/MVCC Technology Challenge is the perfect opportunity to show off your technology talent.

Registration ends January 31st. For more information, contact Suzanne Kendryna at kendryna(at)macspartnership(dot)com.
