Tail-f's NCS First Solution to Provide True Network Automation With High Data Quality for Service Provider Networks(June 04, 2012)
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN -- (Marketwire) -- 06/05/12 -- Tail-f Systems, the leading provider of configuration management and network automation software, today announced that its NCS software is the first solution providing true network automation combined with high data quality for service providers. NCS is an innovative network abstraction layer that resides between OSS platforms and a wide variety of network equipment allowing services to be programmed and automatically translated into configuration changes.
"Poor data quality and lack of automation are major obstacles to achieving operational excellence," said Nancee Ruzicka, Director, OSS/BSS Global Competitive Strategies, Stratecast, a Division of Frost & Sullivan. "Tail-f's NCS enables service providers to more accurately and rapidly program their networks and infrastructure to deliver exciting new services faster and more reliably than ever before."
The lack of data quality in inventory systems is the root cause for many current issues around asset management in service provider environments. The disconnect between live network resources and inventories results in quality degradation over time.
NCS uses a common modeling language and database for services and devices to auto-render a wide range of management interfaces, and APIs. Services and device configuration are stored in a configuration database and kept in sync with the network.
Current systems and processes for service provisioning and configuration management are dependent on time-consuming and error prone manual work by network engineers. Without a solution to network automation and data quality, service providers cannot achieve key goals for operational performance and service agility.
NCS is a network abstraction engine that hides the complexity of network devices and handles service to device mapping and transaction management. This approach allows service providers to move from human orchestration to a programmatic and automated approach.
"While most of the technology needed for operational support systems is in place, network automation is the last frontier of management of service provider networks," said Fredrik Lundberg, CEO, Tail-f Systems. "Service providers tell us that existing approaches to service provisioning and device configuration prevent them from introducing new services and cost efficiently scaling their networks. NCS is a game-changing solution providing true network automation and the highest levels of data quality."
Tail-f's NCS software is a central point of management for entire networks and a framework for implementing network automation and service activation systems. Service providers receive the following benefits from using NCS:
- Significantly reduces lead-time from service definition to live service activation in the network
- Easily integrates with existing OSS software and supports virtually any type of network equipment
- Enables dynamic changes to service portfolio configuration and network equipment support
