TOCs in Adobe InDesign 2.0How to create a custom table of contents
1. Create a book
Choose File > New > Book to create a book. After you name the book, InDesign opens the Book palette with the book?s name on a tab. Click the plus icon in the palette or choose Add Document from the palette menu to add a document to the book. Add all the documents you want to include in the InDesign book: title page, front matter, prologue, articles, chapters and so on. Documents are listed in the order you add them; drag them up or down in the palette to change their order.
To remove a document from the book, select it and click the minus icon in the palette. This removes a document from the book list only; the document file remains intact.
When you create a book from InDesign documents, you can number them consistently, create an index or table of contents encompassing all of them, and print or export the entire set as if they were one file.
2. Specify book page numbering options
Choose Book Page Numbering Options from the palette menu and select a Page Order option. If you want the pages to be numbered automatically, select Automatic Pagination.
Most chapters start on a right page, requiring occasional blank pages. You can choose to have chapters begin on odd pages, even pages, or the next page.
