TGS Announces Open InventorOffers the CAD/CAM Market Improved Functionality through Added Extensions (October 26, 2001)
Open Inventor is for development of cross-platform (Windows, UNIX, Linux) 3D graphics applications in C++ and Java. It is an object-oriented toolkit with over 450 classes and an intuitive and easy-to-use programming interface that allows for rapid prototyping and development of graphics applications.
Open Inventor 3.0 has an extensible architecture that allows developers to add their own functionality. TGS is offering extensions to the toolkit that will allow the developer to "mix and match" the extensions as needed, creating a developers toolkit that is customizable to the individual developers specifications.
TGS currently offers seven Open Inventor extensions:
Volume Rendering - Allows you to add volume (voxel) data and volume rendering tools to the Open Inventor scene graph. This integration allows volume data and 3D geometry to be mixed.
Multi-Pipe - Allows existing Open Inventor "desktop" applications to run on large, multi-screen displays, taking advantage of multiple graphics pipes. The Open Inventor viewer behaves as if it is a single window, but the drawing area is automatically "tiled."
