TCE Shows New PowerCore PluginsPowerCore platform to gain performance improvements for Mac and Windows systems
The new PowerCore 1.8 update offers "significant performance improvements" on Mac-based G4 and G5 systems and Windows-based Pentium and Athlon 64 systems, according to the company. TCE says all of the plugins included with PowerCore have been revamped to include the application-independent TC preset bank manager and faster screen redraws. More than 500 presets have also been added tot he collection. Version 1.8 is expected to ship in December.
The new PowerCore will also include Voltronics, a guitar amp synthesizer plugin. It includes three tube stages based on the 12AX7 design, each of which can be individually adjusted. It also includes a speaker simulator, derived from impulse measurements on a 2 x 12 cabinet, which can be adjusted using a virtual microphone placement control. Finally, it also includes a fingerprint-based noise-reduction filter whose settings can be saved independent from the amp settings.
The new Dynamic EQ is a mixing and mastering plugin designed specifically for the PowerCore system. It offers up to four definable bands that can work in static or dynamic mode (in in combinations of both). Bands can be configured as parametric EQs or as high/low shelving filters. Processing is 48-bit double precision and can be used in phase-linear mode. It's expected to be available in December for $499.
Filtroid is another new plugin for PowerCore, this one designed to emulate analog filter banks. Filtroid includes two filters with low-, hi- and band-pass shapes with 12 dB, 18 dB or 24 dB slope characteristics. Filters can be used in series or parallel, and external side-chain input allows for modulation of the filter from another track. Modulation capabilities include independent LFOs per filter and the envelope follower, and the software also offers tempo sync for synchronizing filter movement to the speed of the sequencer. A distortion unit is also included. Filtroid is expected to be available in November for $249.
